Born on 10 March, 1983, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, she rose to national prominence after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. She is widely regarded as one of the most successful artists to emerge from the show, becoming a global superstar in country music.

Following her American Idol win, Carrie Underwood initially signed with 19 Recordings/Arista Records. She later signed a new worldwide recording agreement with Universal Music Group, and her label home is Capitol Records Nashville, which is part of Universal Music Group Nashville. She has sold over 85 million records worldwide and has won numerous accolades, including eight Grammy Awards.
