Artist Overview

Yanga Sobetwa (mononymously known as Yanga) is a powerhouse South African singer-songwriter who captivated the nation as the winner of Idols South Africa Season 14 in 2018. Born and raised in Delft, Cape Town, she became one of the youngest winners in the show’s history at just 17 years old. Her transition from a teen pop sensation to a deeply respected gospel and soul artist has been defined by her “anointed” vocal range, which blends technical R&B agility with the raw emotional power of traditional South African worship.

Since her debut album Promised Land in 2019, Yanga has evolved into a central figure in the contemporary gospel scene. She is particularly celebrated for her collaboration with the Mmuso Worship collective, where her ability to lead high-energy praise and intimate “spontaneous” worship has reached a global audience. Her 2025 single “Ever Present Help” and her viral live performances of “Nginobufakazi” and “Ebenezer” have solidified her reputation as a “voice of the generation” within the South African church.

In 2026, Yanga’s career has reached new heights through her featured roles on Mmuso Worship’s 27-track live album, The Holy One, released on 27 March, 2026. Her collaboration with gospel icon Ntokozo Mbambo on the track “You Are The One” is widely considered a highlight of the project. Beyond her music, 2025 and 2026 have been significant for her personally; she married Ntsako Khoza in May 2025 and has since embraced a lifestyle of ministry and mentorship, frequently sharing her journey of faith and “bridal” worship through her digital platforms and live worship events across the continent.
